Child Behaviour Policy
The Little Village of Imagination
The Little Village of Imagination aims to provide a fun, safe and welcoming environment where all children can enjoy imaginative play. Children develop at different rates, and behaviour is part of learning. This policy explains how behaviour is supported during sessions.
Expectations
I encourage children to:
- Be kind and respectful to others
- Share and take turns where possible
- Look after equipment and toys
- Use kind hands and words
Parents, carers, schools and nurseries remain responsible for supervising children during sessions unless otherwise agreed.
Positive behaviour support
I use positive behaviour strategies such as:
- Praise and encouragement
- Gentle reminders about rules
- Modelling kind and respectful behaviour
- Supporting children to solve problems through play
When behaviour is challenging
If a child’s behaviour is unsafe or upsetting to others, I will:
- Speak calmly to the child and explain what is expected
- Support the child to make a better choice
- Involve the parent, carer or staff member if needed
- Offer time away from the activity to calm down if appropriate
If behaviour continues
If behaviour continues to put others at risk or seriously disrupts the session:
- The parent, carer or school staff may be asked to support the child more closely
- In rare cases, the child may be asked to leave the activity for their own safety and the safety of others
My approach
I do not use:
- Shouting
- Humiliation
- Physical punishment
All children will be treated with:
- Respect
- Patience
- Understanding
Working together
Positive behaviour works best when adults work together. I encourage parents, carers, schools and nurseries to:
- Support behaviour expectations
- Step in when needed
- Share any relevant information that may help me support their child
My commitment
I am committed to creating:
- A safe environment
- A supportive atmosphere
- A fun space where every child can enjoy imaginative play
